There is a city complex in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, which goes by the name Sunshine City (サンシャインシティ). It hosts one of the tallest buildings in Tokyo, Sunshine 60. This sign points you in that direction. It’s winter solstice today (22nd of December). It’s been quite cloudy, dark and overall grayish in Gothenburg so I thought this was a good day to post this photo from my visit in Japan in 2010.
Redirecting traffic in Tokyo and New York. I’m not sure what authority the old Japanese traffic dude had but he wasn’t moving much compared to the NYPD lady.
a slipknot member? Nope, just a normal day in Harajuku, Tokyo where cosplay kids and gothic lolitas gather to hang out. Nice slippers.
Shibuya crossing. If you could pick a favourite crossing in the world I guess I would have to pick this one, in the heart of Tokyo. An always crowded place and great for people watching. It has been featured in media quite a lot, e.g. in the Lost in Translation and the music video for Read my Mind by the Killers.
Yokohama, Japan. Two photos of the concrete jungle of Yokohama seen from above. The city is located outsde Tokyo but when you take the train there the buildings never stop appearing around you so it still feels like you are in one giant city. When visiting Yokohama I went to the largest Chinatown in Japan, a ferry terminal with interesting architecture and the tallest building in Japan, where these photos were taken from.
two sides of tokyo. A fashionable Japanese girl walking on the streets of Shinjuku while a homeless guy is napping to the right. A contrast seen everywhere I guess. I must say I found Tokyo a very interesting city. I was only there for 2 weeks in January but will definitely go back.
Japanese restaurant kitchen. It is kinda cool that you very often can see your food being made in front of you in Japan. I enjoy watching a good chef work, but it is also shows transparency. It is not like they into some hidden kitchen and put something in the microwave for you. Outside this particular restaurant they also had a little speaker where you could hear the sounds from the kitchen. They got nothing to hide here apparently. Photo is taken from from the outside in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
